The meeting of the North Atlantic Council in KFOR format at the level of ambassadors hold in NATO HQ.
The main topic of the meeting, which was held under the leadership of NATO Deputy Secretary General A.Vershbou was an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina on the normalization of bilateral relations and their possible impact on the security situation in the region and the future role of KFOR in implementing the agreements.
Representatives of Member States and partner countries welcomed the initialling on April 19 Serbian-Kosovo Agreement and the relevant EU efforts to facilitate the negotiation process. However, it was stressed that reaching agreement is only half a step towards the complete stability in the region. The most important task will be the implementation of agreement.
The participants also noted that the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina will not affect the configuration and mandate of KFOR.
Note: since September 1999, the Armed Forces of Ukraine took part in peacekeeping operations in Kosovo as part of KFOR multinational force. The total number of national contingent in KFOR is 163 persons.
National contingents operating in multinational battle group "East" (leading country - the United States). Its main tasks include: patrol, surveillance in hazardous areas, cooperation with representatives of the UN and EU missions in Kosovo as well as local authorities to coordinate actions to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
