On 18-19 September 2013, Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine O.Proskuryakov paid a working visit to NATO Headquarters.
During the visit, the Implementing agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and NATO Support Organisation on disposal of radioactive waste that resulted from military programmes of the former USSR on the territory of Ukraine was signed.
A number of meetings with NATO International Staff top officials and NATO Member States representatives were held, during which the parties discussed issues of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO in the field of environmental safety, as well as possible future projects in this area.
The NATO side expressed confidence that the Implementing agreement signed during the visit signed during the visit would give new impetus to the Alliance's cooperation with partner countries in the field of non-proliferation and control of the movement of hazardous substances.
The Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine stressed the importance of taking joint measures to prevent new environmental problems in the future, including in the cross-border context, and stressed the readiness of Ukraine to participate more actively in practical cooperation in these areas within NATO.
