On 6 November 2013, at the headquarters of the Ukrainian Navy in Sevastopol Acting Commander of Ukrainian Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Serhiy Eliseyev met with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Thrasyvoulos Stamatopoulos.
During the meeting the sides discussed topical issues of military cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, including the participation of Ukrainian Navy in NATO-led operations, in particular in the counter-piracy Operation Ocean Shield, and determined areas of further cooperation in the military sphere.
The NATO Assistant Secretary General thanked Ukraine for its significant contribution to the Alliance’s Ocean Shield counter-piracy and the Active Endeavors counter-terrorism operations. He also praised crew of the Ukrainian frigate Hetman Sagaidachny for preventing pirate attack against a civil vessel in the Gulf of Aden.
