Head of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO, Ambassador Ihor Dolhov held an urgent meeting with the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow due to the severe aggravation of situation in Ukraine provoked by the Russian military escalation.
At the meeting the sides discussed the current situation, ways of NATO’s response to the developments in Ukraine and agreed to hold an urgent meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission in accordance with the article 15 of the Charter on Distinctive Partnership between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Ukraine.
For reference: according to the article 15 of the Charter on Distinctive Partnership between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Ukraine, signed on 09 July 1997 “NATO and Ukraine will develop a crisis consultative mechanism to consult together whenever Ukraine perceives a direct threat to its territorial integrity, political independence, or security”.
The NATO side also expressed its deep concern over the current situation and stressed that such brutal actions by the Russian Federation could not and would not remain unanswered.
