The meeting of the North Atlantic Council at ambassadorial level in the format of NATO's Resolute Support training and advisory Mission in Afghanistan was held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. It was chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The participants discussed the future activities of the international coalition in Afghanistan, taking into account the recent United States' decision to extend the US troops' presence in Afghanistan during 2015.
During the next NATO meetings at the level of Foreign Ministers and Defence Ministers to be held in May and June this year, respectively, the decisions are expected to be adopted on the further development and strengthening of the Enduring Partnership between the Alliance and Afghanistan as well as on the optimization of the Mission's posture on the later stages of its activities.
Ukraine, as a member of the international coalition, will continue to contribute to international efforts to assist Afghanistan in building the effective and capable national security forces and will participate in the NATO's Resolute Support Mission according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 30 March 2015.
The participation of our country in the Resolute Support Mission will strengthen the Distinctive Partnership between Ukraine and NATO and contribute to developing and deepening the strategic partnership of Ukraine with the United States of America and the European Union. It complies with Ukraine's national interests.
