The Government of Ukraine submitted for ratification an agreement with NATO on disposal of radioactive waste

The order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was published on the website of the Government.

Implementation Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and NATO in support of disposal of radioactive waste that was generated during the execution of military programs in the former Soviet Ukraine was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The Agreement was signed during the visit of Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine to the NATO Headquarters on 18 September 2013.
 
After the entry of the Agreement into force between Ukraine and NATO will be launched first project in the Alliance's history for utilization of radioactive sources in our country, which will improve its environmental safety, reduce the negative impact of radioactive waste on the environment and the population.
Realization of other projects that will be carried out under implementing arrangements will allow to remove radioactive waste unsuitable for that storage and bury them to specialized enterprises and conduct rehabilitation of the areas.

All work on disposal of radioactive waste in Ukraine will be conducted by interested Member States and partner countries.
