United States to take wounded Ukrainian troops for medical treatment

21 servicemen who were wounded during the Anti-terrorist operation (ATO) will undergo rehabilitation in American medical facilities.  

In order to arrange the treatment and rehabilitation in NATO member-states of Ukrainian troops that suffered during the ATO in certain area of Donetsk and Luhansk regions the Mission of Ukraine to NATO activated the mechanism of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination, NATO Civil Emergency Planning Committee and NATO Military Committee to inform Allies of Ukraine's needs in this context.

Based on the information provided by the Ukrainian side, the US Department of Defence proposed to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military structures its assistance in treating soldiers, wounded during the ATO in eastern Ukraine.

Transportation and treatment of the 21 servicemen will be carried out at the expense of the US state budget. On 15 July 2015, the first group of 5 Ukrainian servicemen left for the regional medical centre “Landstuhl” (Germany). The departure of the second group is expected during late August this year.

Note: since the beginning of the ATO 273 Ukrainian servicemen, that had been wounded during the ATO have undergone or are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions of NATO member-states and partner countries.
