Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemns the illegal judgment of the citizen of Estonia Eston Kohver, rendered on August 19, 2015, who was abducted from the territory of his state in September 2014. Illegal detention of Eston Kohver on the territory of the Russian Federation on the basis of fabricated charges is a gross violation by the Russian side of the norms and principles of international law.
Russian side once again neglected the fundamental human rights and freedoms. By this judgment Russia again demonstrated its remoteness from the universally recognized principles of democracy, justice, rule of law and openness.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine states that the Estonian citizen Eston Kohver, as well as Ukrainian citizens Nadiya Savchenko, Oleg Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko and other foreign citizens who are illegally detained on the territory of the Russian Federation are hostages of the Russian aggressive policy.
We express our solidarity with the Estonian partners and call on the Russian Federation to immediately release Eston Kohver and ensure full implementation of its obligations under the international law.
