A meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defence Reform was held in Brussels. Ukraine was represented by a delegation led by Chief of Department for planning and mobilization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine V.Askarov.
Defense reform in our country and the main provisions of conceptual documents and strategic defense planning, accepted according to the results of a comprehensive review of the security and defense sphere of Ukraine were discussed during the meeting.
Special attention was paid to measures to reform the Naval Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine.
Representatives of NATO welcomed first steps of Ukraine to reform the national security and defense sector. Meanwhile allies stressed the need Ukraine to develop a comprehensive, realistic and backed by adequate resources the state program on reforming of the Armed Forces of our country as soon as possible.
At the meeting it was agreed that NATO will assist in the development of this document on the basis of the most advanced international standards. Allies also reaffirmed its intention to provide further practical support for reform efforts of the Ukrainian authorities.
