Meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council was held in Brussels and co-chared by Ms. Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, a member of the Verhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Ms. Raynell Andreychuk, a member of the Parliament of Canada.
The event was attended by: from Ukrainian side - Mr. Yurii Bereza (political party “People’s Front”), Mr. Oleksii Skrypnyk (political party “Samopomich” Union”), Ms. Iryna Herashchenko (party “Petro Poroshenko Bloc”); from the PA NATO side - Ms. Rasa Jukneviciene (Lithuania), Mr. Ivans Klementjevs (Latvia), Mr. Sverre Myrli (Norway), Mr. Jamie Shea (NATO International Staff), Mr. Paul Savereux (NATO International Staff), Mr. Florian Encke (NATO International Staff), Mr. Robert Pszcel (NATO International Staff).
Worsening of the situation in the east of Ukraine, non-fulfilment of the obligations under the Minsk agreements by Russia and Russia-backed terrorists, Russian military escalation and deterioration of the humanitarian and social situation in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea were among the priority issues of the meeting.
The parliamentarians of the Allied countries stressed on the unacceptability of Russia's illegal actions against Ukraine, confirmed their intention to continue political and economic pressure on the official Kremlin in order to return it to framework of international law.
Special attention during the meeting of the Interparliamentary Council was paid to NATO's further practical assistance to Ukraine in reforming the national security and defence sector and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It was agreed to provide maximum support to the joint work of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with NATO advisors in Ukraine aimed at finalizing the Concept of reforming the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 2020.
