Reforming of the Defence Ministry, State Border Guard Service and the National Guard of Ukraine discussed at NATO HQ

The delegation of Ukraine headed by First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Ivan Rusnak took part in a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defence Reform (JWGDR).

During the meeting, held under the chairmanship of Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning Jonathan Parish, a range of issues related to the reform of the security and defence sector of our country was discussed. Special attention was paid to the efforts of Ukraine in the context of reforming of Ministry of Defence, State Border Guard Service and the National Guard of Ukraine according to NATO standards. The reforming of the Ukrainian system of military education, including implementation in Ukraine of NATO's “Defence Education Enhancement Programme” (DEEP) was considered.

Ukrainian delegation informed about the significant deterioration of the security situation in eastern Ukraine. It provided the information on casualties among the personnel of the Armed Forces caused by the attacks of pro-Russian separatists.

In their turn, representatives of NATO Member States expressed their sympathy to the Ukrainian people in connection with losses in the fighting in Donbas and stressed that NATO would continue to provide political and practical support to Ukraine.
