First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova Meets NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations John Manza

On 10 February 2021, at the NATO HQ in Brussels, First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova met with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Operations John Manza.

The First Deputy Minister informed her counterpart of the situation in the temporarily occupied Crimea, and of the work on the Inaugural Summit of the Crimean Platform scheduled for August of 2021 with the participation of foreign heads of state and government, as well as of international organizations.

«Ukraine has been and will remain a reliable operational partner of the Alliance. We continue to participate in NATO-led operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, even in the face of Russian aggression. Apart from that, as of today, Ukraine finalizes legal procedures for joining NATO training mission in Iraq”, Emine Dzhaparova highlighted during the meeting.

Emine Dzhaparova informed her counterpart that on February 8, the President of Ukraine signed a Law «On the Approval of the Decision of the President of Ukraine as Regards the Admission of the Units of Armed Forces of Other States on the Territory of Ukraine in 2021 for the Participation in Multinational Exercises». The Ukrainian Parliament initially approved this Law on January 26, 2021. In accordance with the Law, 8 multinational exercises are envisaged to be held on the territory of Ukraine. Around 21 thousand Ukrainian and 11 thousand foreign military personnel are planned to be involved in the exercises. Apart from that, the document contains the Plan of the Ukrainian military personnel’s participation in 17 multinational exercises abroad, in particular, together with NATO member states and Georgia. 

First Deputy Minister Emine Dzhaparova also informed of the approval by the Government of the draft new Military Security Strategy of Ukraine, laying a good foundation for the development of the first NATO Individually Tailored Partnership Programme for Ukraine. Emine Dzhaparova also brought attention to Ukraine’s interest in the intensification of joint activities on reforms in safety management of ammunition stored in arsenals, stocks and warehouses in line with NATO policies.
