The inaugural meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council Strategic Communications Committee took place at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The Ukrainian side was represented by Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko, and Director of the Department of Communications and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Viktoriia Lialina-Boiko
The Ukrainian representative briefed the meeting participants on the work in the field of information security, measures to counter Russian propaganda and disinformation.
Particular attention was paid to communication with the population in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and the mechanisms used by Ukraine to convey truthful and reliable information to our citizens under occupation.
Viktoriia Lialina-Boiko presented Ukraine's key priorities in external communications, including ensuring sustainable support for Ukraine and providing it with necessary weapons by Allies, promoting President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula, strengthening Russia's isolation and sanctions, and ensuring that Russia is held accountable for its crimes against Ukraine.
She provided examples of successful Ukrainian information campaigns and creative approaches used by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to reach a broader audience.
Special attention was also given to communications with the countries of the Global South.
NATO member states emphasized that the Alliance is particularly interested in learning from Ukraine's unique experience in conducting successful communications in times of war and sees the newly established Committee as an effective tool for cooperation in this area.
The Allies also reaffirmed their readiness to support Ukraine, particularly in countering Russian propaganda and disinformation, and in keeping the topic of supporting Ukraine in the focus of international attention.
