Technical Agreement between the Ministry of Defence on Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of the ItalianRepublic regarding provision of logistic support to the Ukrainian personnel embedded in the Italian contingent in the framework of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan signed at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
The Agreement was signed on behalf of the defence ministers of the two states: the Ukrainian side represented by Military Representative of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO, Major General Anatolii Petrenko, the Italian side – by Italian Military Representative to NATO/EU, Lieutenant General Gian Marco Chiarini.
According to the agreement reached, national personnel of Ukraine will operate with Italian contingent in ISAF operation in Herat Province in Afghanistan. The Technical Agreement was signed to set out arrangements, general responsibilities, principles and procedures as appropriate under which the Ukrainian Forces and the Italian Forces would cooperate.
Italy (a leading country in the ISAF Regional Command West) took initiative in inviting the Ukrainian military professionals to carry out common tasks in the Province of Herat, taking into account our experts’ experience in the field of demining and countering improvised explosive devices.
The continuation of Ukraine's participation in the ISAF operation in Afghanistan will contribute to the development of operational capabilities of national armed forces, the introduction of the best military standards, the enhancement of their interoperability with the armies of other countries in the context of joint crisis management activities.
For reference: for the last seven years, Ukrainian military medics, staff officers, civil and military cooperation experts, sappers have carried out tasks as a part of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team of Ghor in the framework of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
