On 16 September 2013 in Kyiv, the Coordination Meeting devoted to the implementation of the NATO Programme for Professional Development of Civilian Personnel in security and defence sector of Ukraine was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine O.Medvedko.

Participants of the meeting, among which were representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service, Mission of Ukraine to NATO and NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine, discussed and approved the Roadmap on NATO-Ukraine cooperation in implementing the Programme in Ukraine.

The importance of efficient use of the Programme’s resources, provided by NATO Member States and partner countries to address the need for training of civil servants in defence and security sector, was emphasised.

Following the meeting it was decided to establish a NATO-Ukraine Joint Coordination Group to improve the effectiveness of the Programme.

 

Background information. The Professional Development Programme (PDP) in Ukraine was launched by the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defence Reform at the High-Level Consultations in Vilnius, Lithuania in October 2005. Its goal is to assist Ukraine with enhancing professional skills of key civilian officials in order to strengthen capacity for effective democratic management. Since the Programme was launched, more than 3500 Ukrainian personnel have received training through the PDP.
