The NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defence Reform met on 26 September 2013 at NATO HQ in Brussels.
The meeting was chaired by the NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Mr. James Appaturai.
Ukrainian delegation, which consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, was led by the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Admiral Ihor Kabanenko.
During the meeting the following issues were discussed: the implementation of NATO standards in defence sector of Ukraine and in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as the status of training and social adaptation of military personnel discharged from the Armed Forces and other military structures.
NATO side distinguished Ukraine as a key partner of the Alliance and stressed the importance of NATO's continuing constructive cooperation with our country.
Participants of the meeting, which was held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, approved the decision to continue to assist Ukraine in implementing its plans for reforming and developing the Armed Forces.
