On 10 October 2013 at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of Political and Partnerships Committee was held and devoted to the problems of arms control and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
During the meeting, Director General for International Security and Disarmament of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ukraine, Mr. Oleksandr Aleksandrovych informed NATO member states about Ukraine's perspective on the role of arms control to ensure contemporary and future European security architecture, new trends and challenges in the field of nuclear non-proliferation, the prohibition of chemical weapons as well as in export control.
Special attention was paid to discussing initiatives of Ukraine’s Chairmanship of the OSCE in terms of completing the update of 1994 OSCE Principles Governing Non-Proliferation and of the Vienna Document 2011 on Confidence and Security Building Measures.
A presentation on Ukraine’s experience in implementing projects on non-proliferation of radioactive materials in the framework of the G-8’s initiative "Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction" was made at the meeting by Deputy Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, Mr. Mykola Proskura.
