On 24 November 2013, a prayerful commemoration of the victims of Holodomor (Manmade Famine) in Ukraine in 1932-1933 took place in the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels.
The service was attended by the representatives of Belgian government authorities, clergy, diplomatic corps, Ukrainian community and the media.
In his speech, Ambassador of Ukraine to Belgium, Head of the Ukrainian Mission to NATO Ihor Dolgov emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of Holodomor victims in order to prevent similar crimes against humanity in the future.
The service was proceeded by a solemn memorial march along the central streets of Brussels.
On 14 November 2013, an item on commemorating victims of Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933 was entered into the Joint Statement of the Twentieth Meeting of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, which urged European Union member countries to condemn criminal actions of USSR totalitarian regime, aimed at organisation of Holodomor - genocide of Ukrainians.
