Political Director of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleksii Makeiev took part in a meeting of NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of the Committee for Policy and Partnerships, which was held at NATO Headquarters.
The focus in the meeting was on the current development of the security situation in Ukraine, the policy of the Government of Ukraine on the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, and the impact of these and other recent developments on the security of Ukraine, the Black Sea region and the Euro-Atlantic area as a whole. The Allies demonstrated full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, stressed the non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea, and confirmed their willingness to continue to assist Ukraine in addressing this unexpected security challenge.
Special attention was paid to the issue of the release of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian citizens illegally detained by the Russian Secret Service. The Political Director of the MFA of Ukraine called on the NATO Member States to exert targeted pressure on the Kremlin aiming at releasing citizens of Ukraine. The Allies expressed readiness to participate in this process through their channels.
For a more detailed discussion of the current security situation in the Black Sea region against the background of recent developments, O.Makeiev held separate meetings in the delegations of the United States, Canada, Turkey, Romania, Poland and Lithuania.
