President P.Poroshenko has approved the NSDC decision of May 6, 2015 “On the Strategy of National Security of Ukraine”.
The document stipulates that Russian aggression and other changes in external and internal security environment of Ukraine provide for the necessity of a new national security system in the country.
Under the Strategy, the main directions of the state policy in the given sphere are the restoration of territorial integrity within the internationally recognized border of Ukraine, establishment of efficient security and defense sector, enhancement of defense capacity of the state, inter alia, due to the development of defense-industrial and military-technical cooperation with NATO and EU member-states, and achievement of full independence from Russia in the production of military equipment.
One of the main objectives of the Strategy is to ensure the integration of Ukraine into the European Union and the creation of conditions for joining NATO. The document stipulates that the Association Agreement with the EU defines strategic guidelines for the systemic political and socio-economic reforms in Ukraine, and cooperation with the Alliance promotes democratic values in Ukraine, formation of a stable security environment.
