On 10 September the delegation of Naftogaz of Ukraine visited NATO HQ for participating in the NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting on energy security issues.

Energy security is becoming increasingly important in NATO’s activities. Ukraine’s policies aimed at overcoming energy dependency and diversifying energy sources have received increased attention from the Allies.

During the meeting Special Envoy for Government Relations of Naftogaz of Ukraine Vadym Glamazdin informed NATO on the Ukraine’s role in ensuring energy security of Europe, Ukraine’s preparations for the next heating season and securing sufficient gas stocks in the country’s UGS facilities. Another important focus was the creation of a sustainable route for LNG imports to Ukraine through the regasification terminal in Poland in accordance with the Memorandum of understanding on trilateral cooperation with the U.S. and Poland, to diversify sources of gas supply and enhance the energy security of Ukraine which was signed on 31 of August 2019 in Warsaw.

The briefing of Naftogaz of Ukraine has provided the Allies with detailed information on energy security in NATO’s eastern flank, which will be further reflected in the Alliance’s energy security policy.
