The final annual meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Joint Working Group on Defence Reform (JWGDR) co-chaired by First Deputy Secretary of the NDSC of Ukraine O. Medvedko and NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning Ambassador Huseyin Dirioz held in NATO headquarters in Brussels.
The counterparts discussed the results of the JWGDR by 2012, prospects for the implementation of practical projects and programs that run under its auspices. Following the meeting the sides determine the core activities of JWGDR for next year. The potential of JWGDR to support the efforts of our state to reform its defense and security sector, approaching the standards of EU member states and NATO was underlined during the meeting. It was confirmed mutual interest of the parties to continue a constructive partnership in security and defense sector, which contributes to stability and security in the European region.
O Medvedko held a bilateral meeting with the Assistant Deputy NATO Secretary General to discuss the importance of effective implementation of existing programs and projects of Ukraine's cooperation with NATO and discussed current issues of practical cooperation with NATO in the security and defense areas.
At the same day, the delegation of Ukraine took part in the meeting of the Coordination Committee on Defence Reform Programme for Professional Development of Civilian Personnel of security and defense sector of Ukraine, which emphasized the importance of the program due to the need to enhance professional knowledge and skills of Security and Defense sector of Ukraine, and discussed the priorities of the project for the next year and in the future.
