The Autumn Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly was held in Dubrovnik (Croatia) on 11-14 October 2013.
Besides permanent and associate members of the NATO PA, the session was attended by Croatian President Ivo Josipovich, Croatian Parliament (Sabor) Speaker Josip Leko and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen as guests of honor.
Members of Ukrainian Parliament’s (Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine) Permanent Delegation to NATO PA, led by MP Volodymyr Oliynyk, and Head of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO, Ambassador Ihor Dolgov took part in the session.
On 11 October, at the opening of the Autumn Session NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen delivered a speech “Defense Matters”, in which he drew attention to the importance of the development of the defence industry and the need to halt the decline in defence spending for the sake of security on the European continent. He reaffirmed Alliance's commitment to maintaining peace and stability as well as its readiness to expand cooperation and partnerships with interested countries. He also emphasized that NATO's door remains open to new members.
On 12-13 October, NATO PA continued to work in the framework of its five committees.
On 14 October, following the four-day work NATO PA adopted a series of resolutions, including on the crisis in Syria, the support for Afghanistan after 2014, and the economic implications of the cost of energy on both sides of the Atlantic for European countries.
