On 2 December 2014, a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs concerning the new mission in Afghanistan "Resolute Support" was held at NATO Headquarters (Brussels).
The delegation of senior politicians of Afghanistan headed by the President of the country A.Ghani and Chief Executive Officer A.Abdullah attended the meeting.
During the event, the Alliance declared its intention to launch a new training and advisory mission in Afghanistan in January 2015 and approved its decision by the relevant Executive directive.
A number of potential partners reaffirmed their intention to make the financial contributions to the Trust Fund for supporting of the Afghan National Army.
In the joint statement on Afghanistan, NATO has once again stressed the importance of assisting the Afghan government to maintain a peaceful environment and to develop the national security forces.
Ukraine confirms its willingness to fulfill its international obligations concerning the participation of Ukrainian national staff in coalition forces in Afghanistan after 2014. It is expected that a group of Ukrainian servicemen (mine clearance specialists and staff officers) will participate in the new NATO mission. Among other things, this is another opportunity for Ukraine to deepen interoperability between its Armed Forces and NATO.
