Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council: Russia’s true intentions will be assessed by its actions, not words
11 March 2015 18:48

A meeting of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, dedicated to the grave anniversary of the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine, was held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

The meeting was convened by the NATO Secretary General on the initiative of Head of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO Ihor Dolhov. The event was attended by representatives of all 28 Allies and 22 partners, including Russia.

The discussion focused on the efforts made by the international community during the past year with the aim of forcing Russia to abandon its aggressive policy against Ukraine and other neighbouring countries, and ringing the Russian side back to the framework of international law.

Head of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO Ihor Dolhov emphasised that the ultimate goal of all efforts is not only to stop the hostilities in eastern Ukraine and to make Russia return to the norms and principles of international law, but also to restore the status-quo in all cases of violation by the Russian side of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of our country.

Representatives of NATO Member States and almost all NATO partner countries confirmed the non-recognition of the annexation Ukraine’s Autonomous republic of Crimea by Russia and reiterated their support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of our country in its internationally recognized borders. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the Minsk arrangements under the OSCE monitoring and verification. In this regard, increase in the number of monitors of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission was welcomed. There were calls on Russia to fulfil Minsk arrangements and use its influence on the separatists to stop the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, to stop supplying them with weapons and other resources, to support them with regular military units.

At the meeting, Head of the Mission of Russia to NATO clearly followed the well-known Kremlin’s rhetoric, which proved further self-isolation of the Russian side in the international arena.

Speeches by the Russian representative, on the one hand, and by the representatives of NATO Member States and Partner Nations, on the other hand, demonstrated remaining fundamental differences in their positions on the "Ukrainian issue" and in their approaches to the formation of the world order and international security today.
