General of the army of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak visited NATO Headquarters on 14-15 June 2016 to participate in the NATO Defence Minister Meetings.
During the visit, Stepan Poltorak met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and took part in the meeting of NATO-Ukraine Commission (NUC) at the level of defense ministers.
During the NUC meeting NATO side was informed about the security situation in eastern Ukraine, as well as the steps taken by the Ukrainian government to stabilize it. It was emphasized that hybrid war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine threatens not only our country but also it is challenge to security in the whole Euro-Atlantic area.
Special attention during the NUC meeting was paid to the progress in implementation of the Ukraine defence reform and recently approved by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko a Strategic Defence Bulletin.
Following the NUC ministerial meeting the Comprehensive assistance package for Ukraine, which must be approved by the Heads of State and Government at the NATO-Ukraine Summit in Warsaw, was agreed.
During the visit to NATO Headquarters Ukraine Defence Minister held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Georgia, Poland Portugal Romania and the United States. In addition, a Sales Agreement between the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency on was signed.
