During the visit the Ukrainian side was briefed on the main activities of the Agency after its reorganization, in particular relating to cooperation with partner countries, including Ukraine. It was stressed that the main areas of cooperation include logistics support, support for NATO initiatives regarding the establishment of trust funds in the member countries of the NATO "Partnership for Peace" program (NATO / PfP), facilitating strategic transportation, as well as support of NATO disaster response operations.
The Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the assistance of the NATO / PfP Trust Fund in destroying huge surplus stocks of small arms and light weapons in Ukraine.
It was also discussed the launch of a project to improve the management of radioactive waste, formed as a result of the Soviet defense programs and their subsequent safe disposal in specialized repositories.
NATO Support Agency (NSPA) is the NATO’s Integrated Logistics and Services Provider Agency, combining the former NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA), the Central Europe Pipeline Management Agency (CEPMA) and the NATO Airlift Management Agency (NAMA).
As NSRA is the successor NAMSA, all contracts with NAMSA, NSRA will be performed under the same conditions.
Cooperation with NAMS is based on the Memorandum of Understanding between Ukraine and the NATO logistics services and supply (NAMSO), which was signed on 06.12.2001.
The most important areas of cooperation between Ukraine and NSRA is the Program SALIS (temporary solution for strategic airlift) and the Trust Fund, NATO / PfP utilization of man-portable air defense systems, small arms, light weapons and conventional ammunition.
