During the meeting there were discussed the major milestones and prospects of Ukraine's cooperation with NATO in the light of the 15th anniversary of the distinctive partnership between NATO and Ukraine.
Head of the Mission of Ukraine to NATO, Ambassador I.Dolhov briefed the participants on the reforms implemented by the President and the Government of Ukraine, especially in the defense sector, fighting the corruption and consequences of the economic crisis, improving social and economic situation of the population.
Talking about preparation of the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ambassador I.Dolhov informed the members of the NATO-Ukraine Commission about the steps taken to improve the election legislation, rule of law, transparency, fairness and competitiveness in the electoral process. He underlined that Ukraine is expected unprecedented number of international observers. He stressed that the most important factor of legitimacy of the process is the trust of citizens in its results. However, the Parliament of the new convocation, along with the President and the Government should become responsible implementation center of modernization strategy.
Concerning foreign policy priorities, Ambassador I.Dolhov highlighted Ukraine's European integration and cooperation with NATO. Particular attention was paid to the priorities of Ukraine's chairmanship at the OSCE in 2013 and creating the conditions for more effective implementation of the main functions of NGOs.
The meeting showed mutual desire and interest in the implementation of the bilateral political dialogue which will also take into account the international evaluation of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
The sides agreed to continue cooperation in combating traditional and new security threats and challenges.
