On 16 January 2025, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council at the level of Chiefs of Defence took place at NATO Headquarters.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi took part in the meeting (online).
The Commander-in-Chief thanked the Allies for their support in the fight against Russian aggression and, in particular, for the establishment of the NSATU mission (NATO Security Assistance and Training Ukraine), which will play an important role in coordinating assistance for Ukraine.
Oleksandr Syrskyi briefed the partners on the operational and strategic situation at the frontline, assessed Russia's plans to continue the war and its estimated further actions.
The general presented the Allies with Ukraine's 2025 strategy. He emphasised the importance for Ukraine of strengthening its air defence, in particular to protect critical infrastructure, as well as the ability to strike at military targets deep into Russian territory.
Oleksandr Syrskyi also called on NATO member states to invest in the Ukrainian defence industry following the ‘Danish model’ and to provide additional support in training the military, in particular, along with training outside Ukraine, to support the initiative to conduct training at Ukrainian training grounds with the involvement of instructors from NATO member states.
The allies assured that their support for Ukraine would remain unchanged and confirmed their readiness to provide the necessary assistance.
